Many restrooms these days provide paper towels for you to dry your hands. But just one sheet is usually not enough to completely dry wet hands, and most people end up using two. I often think about the vast number of trees that have to be cut down to produce these towels, and it feels wasteful.
I’ve always given a lot of thought to how I can save on paper towel usage. First, after washing my hands, I shake them several times over the sink to remove excess water. Then, I fold a paper towel in half before I use it. This way, one sheet is usually more than enough. An added benefit of this method is that it’s a quick workout for your arms. Another method is simply wiping my hands dry on my pants, which is also a time-saver.
In this way, I want to do my part to preserve the environment for future generations.
요즘 많은 화장실에는 손을 닦을 수 있는 종이 타월을 제공하는 곳이 많다. 하지만 보통 젖은 손을 완전히 말리려면 한 장만으로는 충분하지 않아 대부분의 사람들이 두 장을 사용한다. 나는 이 타월을 생산하기 위해 벌목해야 하는 수많은 나무를 생각하면 너무 아깝다는 생각이 든다.
나는 항상 종이 타월 사용량을 줄일 수 있는 방법에 대해 많은 고민 해왔다. 먼저 손을 씻은 후 양손을 세면대에서 여러 번 털어 물기를 제거한다. 그런 다음 종이 타월을 반으로 접어서 사용한다. 이렇게 하면 보통 한 장이면 충분하다. 이 방법의 또 다른 장점은 팔 근육을 단시간에 단련할 수 있다는 점이다. 또 다른 방법은 바지에 손을 닦는 것인데, 이는 시간을 절약할 수 있다.
이런 식으로 다음 세대를 위한 환경을 지키기 위해 조금이나마 내 역할을 다하고 싶다.
