Every year at our company ceremony for new recruits, where I meet the new employees for the first time, a saying always comes to mind: “A person’s arrival is an incredible event, because an entire life is arriving as well.”
From the faces of the new hires at the ceremony, I could sense a wide range of emotions, like shyness, nervousness, and awkwardness.
At a welcoming event held after the ceremony, I congratulated the new employees. A common sentiment heard from them was that their parents were thrilled to hear that they had landed a job at our company. Hearing this made me realize that I must really do my job as a mentor, helping them realize their dreams and goals.
Meanwhile, I also found myself hoping that my own children will receive such a warm welcome when they enter the workforce.

매년 신입사원들을 처음 만나는 신입사원 입사식에 가면 늘 떠오르는 말이 있다. ‘한 사람이 온다는 것은 어마어마한 일이다. 한 사람의 일생이 오기 때문이다.’ 입사식에 참석한 신입사원들의 얼굴에서 수줍음, 긴장감, 어색함 등 다양한 감정을 느낄 수 있었다.
입사식이 끝난 후 열린 환영 행사에서 나는 신입사원들에게 축하 인사를 건넸다. 신입사원들의 공통된 소감은 부모님이 우리 회사에 취직했다는 소식을 듣고 기뻐하셨다는 것이다. 이 말을 들으니 멘토로서 그들의 꿈과 목표를 실현할 수 있도록 도와주는 역할을 충실히 해야겠다는 다짐을 했다.
한편으로는 우리 아이들도 취업 후 이런 따뜻한 환영을 받았으면 좋겠다는 생각도 들었다.
