Lee Mun-Sae is a ballad singer who was a big deal in the 80s and 90s. He was also a household name among radio DJs. I went to one of his concerts with my dad when I was in middle school. As as 40-something now, I still enjoy his music. Last year, my middle school-aged daughter told me she wanted to attend a Lee Mun-Sae concert. I had my reservations about attending an in-person concert amid the coronavirus pandemic. I booked the tickets nonetheless, but the concert was pushed back as the pandemic became worse. On the first day of the Lunar New Year holiday the next year, when my daughter was getting ready to enter high school, we finally attended the concert.
As soon as I heard the first song, it was so beautiful that my eyes welled up. During the concert, Mr. Lee Mun-Sae read aloud a story I had shared on his instagram account. He expressed gratitude that three generations of our family - My dad, my daughter, and myself - all enjoyed his concerts. He also took a request and sang it for us right then and there. He even refunded the cost of our tickets, calling it New Year's pocket money. I was surprised again and again.
