Reading more books is on my to-do list this year. I visit a lot of websites for bookstores and libraries that provide information on books. I do this to find the perfect book for me. I can think of three ways to discover good reads. First, I don't recommend books whose covers are over the top. Whenever I immersed myself in a book, it had a no-nonsense cover.
Second, it's best to find a book that deals with a topic that I can relate to. A book must reflect the author's viewpoint. So, I try to find topics that I can identify with.
Third, for people who don't read on the regular, I recommend starting out with books on the bestseller lists. More often than not, famous books that are widely enjoyed tend to contain high-quality content.
