Before my eldest daughter started grade school, her vision took a downturn. It got to the point where she needed glasses. Based on suggestions from acquaintances and advice from a doctor, I decided on dream lenses.
Dream lenses are special contact lenses designed to correct nearsightedness and astigmatism by flattening the center of the cornea. You wear them when you go to bed, and when you remove them the next morning, your vision is temporarily restored.
They eliminate the need for glasses or contacts during daily activities, which makes sports like swimming more convenient. However, the lenses are expensive. With artificial tears, storage solution, cleaning solution, and saline, the costs add up. Moreover, wearing lenses for more than 8 hours can strain the eyes, so they must be removed early in the morning.
I hope that better vision correction methods will be developed in the future, so that our children can enjoy their daily lives more comfortably.
acquaintance - a person whom you know but do not know well and who is therefore not exactly a friend
nearsightedness - the condition of only being able to see clearly objects that are close to you
astigmatism - a fault in the lens of the eye that reduces the quality of sight
flatten - to make or become flat
cornea - the transparent covering of the eye that protects the front of it
strain - a force or influence that stretches, pulls, or puts pressure on something, sometimes causing damage
