Obtaining a National License

I currently do work related to quality control in the quality department of our company. But 5 years ago, I also started getting involved in safety-related work. Since it was not my principal duty, my understanding of safety-related tasks was lacking. Improvements were slow to arrive. So one day, I took to heart the old saying that "you see what you know". I set my sights on a national license for safety work. As the head of a household and a company employee, doing test prep for certification exam wasn't easy. I used the early morning hours before work and the weekends to study. It was tough, but I stuck with(/to) the plan and prepared. As a result, I was certified to deal with industrial safety and hazardous materials. I felt a great sense of accomplishment.

  • The book improved my understanding of the subject. / I don't have enough of an understanding of the project.
  • Once I set my sights on something, nobody can stop me. / You should start by setting your sights on smaller goals.
  • We decided to stick with the plan, despite the setback. / Just stick to the plan and you will be fine.

1: What are you studying?
2: Oh, I'm doing test prep to obtain a license.
1: You just got a license last year. You're at it again.
2: Yes. This time it's for a health-related license.
1: You're such a hard worker.
2: It's because the things I study come in handy for my work, too.
